Varenyky (singular varenyk; in Ukrainian, варе́ник[и]) are a national Ukrainian Cuisine dish. Some variants are also found in Belarusian, Russian and Polish cooking. Varenyky are similar to Polish pierogi, Siberian pelmeni, and Italian ravioli. Varenyky, however, are of larger size and frequently have cottage cheese filling. Other typical fillings include mashed potatoes, meat, or berries.
During preparation, the filling is wrapped with dough, and then boiled for several minutes. The name varenyk, in fact, simply means "boiled thing", from the adjective варений (romanized, varenyj).
Varenyky are very popular in Ukraine as a quick-fix dish.
