Ingredients

  • 8oz Self Raising flour
  • 2 tsp baking powder
  • 8oz rolled oats
  • 4oz sugar
  • 6oz black treacle
  • 8oz butter/margarine

Procedure

  1. Put the butter or margarine, sugar and treacle into a saucepan and stir over a low heat until the fat and sugar have melted.
  2. Add the porridge oats, flour and baking powder and blend thoroughly.
  3. Press into two well greased 7" round sandwich tins.
  4. Bake in the centre of a moderate oven at 180c or 350f or gas mark 4 for 20-25 minutes or until cooked through (test with a skewer).
  5. Mark into slices whilst warm.
  6. Allow to become almost cold in the tin before removing.
